Stephen King lit upon the idea for his new book, Billy Summers, while telling himself bedtime stories.I started to think about this problem, of a hitman who had to take a shot and get away. Billy’s instincts tell him that his 2m fee won’t be honoured, and relations with his criminal employers go south. This book does not go down the supernatural path, as do many of his earliest works, but in true King fashion, there is a nod to one of his most lauded books, involving a haunted hotel. I know that those who aren’t as staunchly in awe of this work, think of his name as a horror writer.
